Sweet 16 With Us

On August 29, 2010, my beautiful baby girl, Nevaeh, entered this world with her Mommy and Mimi right there to welcome her with so much love. From that day forward, I knew my life would never be the same. But even then, I couldn’t have imagined all the ways you would blossom into the young woman you are today. Watching you grow has been one of the greatest privileges of my life, and you have made me such a proud mom.

Three years ago, we packed up our lives and moved to LA. The adjustment wasn’t easy for Nevaeh, and in the beginning, it was rough. But just like everything else life has placed in front of her, she conquered it. She adapted, became resilient, and continued growing in her own way and at her own pace. That’s one thing I know about my daughter: there is very little that can stop her once she finds her footing.

Throughout all her school years, Nevaeh has maintained A’s and B’s, and even while navigating high school in a completely new area, she has continued to do well academically. Since starting high school, she has also stepped outside her comfort zone and taken on a new sport — volleyball, both indoor and beach — and watching her grow as an athlete has made me even more proud. 🏐❤️

There are so many words I could use to describe Nevaeh. She’s honest, respectful, intelligent, caring, loving, talented, trustworthy, observant, quiet and composed. She’s loyal and doesn’t fold under peer pressure. She stays grounded in her morals, loves and trusts God, and isn’t easily influenced by what everyone else is doing. She’s beautiful inside and out, funny, goofy, and definitely my broke bestie — but hopefully not for long because WE’RE 16 NOW, GIRL… time to get a job! 😂😂

She’s fearless in so many ways… although spiders and flies will humble her IMMEDIATELY. 😂🕷️🪰 And like most teenagers, she definitely appreciates her alone time in her room. But underneath that quiet, observant personality is such a loving heart. She loves the people who love her, gives people grace without always questioning their intentions, and carries herself in a way that makes me proud.

One of the hardest things I’ve ever had to watch was the change in her after losing her Mimi in 2021. I watched a piece of her spark fade when we lost someone who meant so much to us. We still miss Mimi tremendously, and that space will always belong to her. But over time, I’ve watched Nevaeh’s light slowly begin to shine again. ✨ Seeing that spark come back, watching her laugh, grow, try new things and become more confident in herself has meant more to me than she will probably ever understand. We are so proud of your growth, Nevaeh. I know Mimi would be too. 🕊️❤️

Now, as you turn 16 and prepare to enter your junior year of high school, my prayer is that God continues to cover you, protect you and guide you. I ask our family and friends to keep Nevaeh in your prayers as she continues learning who she is and growing into the woman she’s meant to become. Pray for her wisdom, maturity, discernment, protection, confidence and everything that comes with entering this next stage of life.

Baby girl, never feel pressured to grow at anyone else’s pace. Continue being observant. Continue standing on your morals. Continue protecting your heart. Continue trusting God. Continue being YOU. There is so much life ahead of you, and I can’t wait to see where it takes you.
